We had a lovely whole school Mass to celebrate the official opening of the newly expanded building. Bishop Robert Byrne concelebrated Mass in the Hall with Canon David Cousins (Governor at St Joseph’s for 38 years), Father Michael Ho , Father Neil Bayliss (Chair of the Board for the STJPIIMAC) and Deacon Daniel Hurd (ex pupil of St Joseph’s).

On Wednesday morning, the New Building and the Prayer Room were blessed by Bishop Byrne before Mass. The children were joined by many ex-staff and governors: Margaret McDermott, David Linehan, Wendy Cooke, Val Hobday, Yvonne Bailey, Mel Lane, Mary Wakefield, Tina McFadyen, Margaret McConnell, Mary Dickenson and Ann Neenan as well as many parents, Academy Committee members, Directors from the MAC and the 3 Principals from the other schools; Mr Emery, Miss Cotter and Mr Farrell. All commented on how mature the children were, how wonderfully they read and sang during the Mass.

We are blessed to have such a beautiful school, but even more so for the wonderful children, families and staff. Everyone rose to the occasion and made St Joseph’s a place to be proud of.

This year, Unicef are supporting those who are unnecessarily suffering from malnutrition in Liberia (West Africa) where one in three children are malnourished. Our enthusiastic children  supported Unicef’s ‘Day for Change’ by participating in a Fun Run of 3, 6 or 9 laps around the field and wearing blue to show their support for this campaign.  It was lovely to see the children come together, supporting on another, raising money for a fantastic cause while enjoying the beautiful weather!

Easter Hunt

Thank you to the PTA for organising and running the Easter Hunt again this year for the children. The children thoroughly enjoyed the hunt on the field – almost as much as they enjoyed the ice-cream afterwards! A great way to end the term.

Easter Egg Hunt money collected … £217.00

After receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the children in Year 3 attended a retreat day to Alton Castle. It was a wonderful, fun-filled day with numerous opportunities to reflect upon their faith journey so far and to prepare for the next step…receiving the Body of Christ on our First Holy Communion day.
